Where to Stay for Umbria Jazz and Eurochocolate (Without Perugia Prices)

Twice a year, Perugia becomes one of the busiest places in Italy. In July, Umbria Jazz brings ten days of world-class music to the historic centre. In October, Eurochocolate turns the city into a chocolate fair that draws visitors by the hundreds of thousands. Both are wonderful — and both make finding a room in Perugia expensive, competitive, and stressful.

Here’s the approach seasoned festival-goers use: don’t sleep in the crowd. Sleep ten minutes away.

The festivals, briefly

Umbria Jazz (July) is one of Europe’s great jazz festivals, running since 1973. Headline concerts share the bill with a packed programme of free performances on outdoor stages — for ten days the whole historic centre plays music from midday past midnight.

Eurochocolate (October) is Italy’s biggest chocolate festival: tastings, stands, sculptures and events celebrating Perugia’s chocolate heritage — this is the home of Perugina and the Baci — spread across the city.

For both, accommodation in Perugia books out months in advance, minimum stays appear, and prices climb steeply. And even with a room in the centre, you’d face the festival’s real headache: the car.

Why Corciano is the smart base

Drive 8 minutes to the large parking area at Pian di Massiano, then let the Minimetrò — Perugia’s driverless mini-monorail — carry you up into the historic centre in a few minutes. You arrive rested, right in the middle of the festival, having skipped the traffic and the ZTL entirely. Late at night, the same route brings you home without a parking saga.

Add the practical comforts: the apartment sleeps up to 4, has air conditioning (July in Umbria is properly hot), a full kitchen for slow breakfasts before big days, and a balcony for the debrief afterwards. A supermarket is a 3-minute walk away.
